Rules: These are NRA Approved matches. Unless modified by this program, current NRA rules will apply. Open bolt indicators are required (Rule 3.21). All competitors will wear eye and ear protection (Rules 3.19 & 3.20) in the pits. All competitors will wear hearing protection on the firing line where eye protection is also highly encouraged. Competitors will score, work in the target pits, and assist the Range and Pit Officers as required. The use of plug type scoring gauges is restricted to the Pit Officer only.

Sighting Shots: Coaching during sighting shots is allowed to get the shooter on the target. All sighting shots must be recorded on the back of the score card. The shooter must tell the scorer when he is going to shoot for record before firing the first record shot. Once the shooter has fired his first record shot, he can not shoot any more sighting shots. Additional time may not be allowed for record shots if more than 5 sighting shots are fired.

Rifle: Any safe rifle. There will be an Any Rifle category (Rule 3.2) and a Service Rifle category (Rule 3.1, 3.1.1, or 3.1.2). Competitors must shoot the service rifle in both fired matches to be eligible for that aggregate award. The M1C, M1D, M21, and similar scoped service rifle systems are allowed in the any sight matches.

Ammunition: Any safe ammunition (Rule 3.17.B).

Challenges: A $3.00 fee in exact change must accompany any challenge. The fee will be refunded if the challenge is upheld.

Classification: The NRA classification system will be used. A current NRA Long Range classification card, temporary score book, or assigned classification is acceptable. If four or more unclassified competitors compete they will be placed in a separate class, otherwise they will shoot as Masters. An unclassified shooter has not shot in a NRA Registered or Approved match within the past three years. Unclassified shooters must be sponsored by a classified shooter.

F-Class Category: F-Class Prone (Rule 5.6.1) is fired from the prone position and the rifle may be supported with a rear and/or front rest (Rule 5.3, 3.2). Entries for F-Class competition will be allowed to fill range capacity after all shooters entering regular competition have been accommodated. Whenever possible, F-Class shooters will pull targets for other F-Class shooters. F-Class awards will follow the same schedule as for regular competition. Shooters registered in the F-Class category only compete against other F-Class shooters. Shooters can not shoot in both regular competition and F-Class competition during the same match.

It is very helpful to be cooperative and polite when answering all questions from the guards. Unless on official law enforcement business, Ft Knox considers all peace officers as civilians and thus subject to all these requirements.

Here is the information on the Fort Knox gate requirements and directions to Scott Mountain Range from Chaffee Gate on Bullion Blvd.

Chaffee Gate Roster: A roster of all competitors must be submitted to Fort Knox security personnel 9 days before the match.  So all shooters must send in the following information before 4:30 pm on Thursday, September 2, 2010: full name including middle name, current address, date of birth, rifle type, and rifle serial number.  This information must reach the match coordinator at least 9 days before the match date.  Mail entries to: Bill Balda, 147-A Doe Run, Frankfort, KY 40601; 800-852-0942, ext 4536; This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  The matches are held on a military post and may be cancelled with little notice; without a phone number, you may not be advised of a schedule change.

Directions:  Travel down Dixie Highway, 31W, to the exit for Chafee Gate on Bullion Boulevard and exit Dixie Highway, 31W, to enter post through Chafee Gate.  When stopped at the gate and asked where you are going, say that you are traveling to Scott Mountain Range and the gate guards will check your name on the roster.  Be sure to show your driver’s license and have current vehicle registration and proof of insurance with you.  After clearing the gate, drive down Bullion Boulevard about 1.3 miles to the cloverleaf intersection with Eisenhower Avenue.  Take the first right at the cloverleaf onto Eisenhower Avenue and go immediately under the railroad tracks and up to the traffic light at Knox Street.  Turn left at this light and go north on Brandenburg Gate Road towards the gate to Frazier Road (just after the railroad tracks).  Turn right onto Frazier Road and go to the four way stop at Wilson Road.  Then go straight through the intersection and travel down Main Range Road past French Range.  Continue down Main Range Road and go down an extremely steep hill.  At the base of the hill turn left onto Porter River Road.  Follow Porter River Road across the bridge to the first gate on the right, turn right and go up the steep hill.

CAUTION: These matches are held on a U.S. military installation and all personnel will be subject to all applicable federal laws and military regulations when traveling on post. Concealed Carry Permits are not valid on federal installations and carrying concealed weapons of any kind on Ft. Knox is against federal law and military regulations. Competitors are advised to arrive at Fort Knox early in order to process through the gate and arrive at the match promptly. All firearms will be unloaded and secured in an appropriate storage container. Ammunition will also be stored in appropriate containers and kept separate from any firearms.
